Day 76

Officially back from our holiday, and what an eventful time it was. I’m going to recap the last couple of weeks over a few entries, so I thought it would be good to begin with the day we travelled to Fiji. Paddy had a sniffly nose which we didn’t think anything of as the kids seem to constantly have a cough or runny nose so it didn’t seem anything out of the ordinary. He recently had a cold so I assumed it was just lingering from that as it usually does. We drove to the airport at lunch time which meant it was both kids nap time. We thought- great! If both kids nap now then they will both probably sleep on the plane too. How wrong we were...

Edi-Rae only slept for 23 minutes in the car which was not ideal at all. Paddy slept about half an hour which was okay because he can get away with no sleep, but he did wake a lot more grizzly than usual which I was a bit concerned about. He was excited to see the airport and kept speaking about Fiji and our holiday though so that eased my mind. Edi-Rae was very whingy at the airport, struggling with only having a 23 minute nap. Surely she will sleep on the plane- SURELY? Plane time came. Paddy had a seat to himself which he was happy about. Edi-Rae was on our lap which she was not so happy about. As soon as that red belt went on, she was pissed off. The first hour was semi okay, and then it just turned in to an absolute shit show. Paddy seemed to be getting more heightened as time went on and was SO upset. To the point where he was full force screaming, arching his back, kicking every seat around him. Like the biggest meltdown I have ever seem him have in his whole life. This set the extremely tired Edi-Rae off too and off she went. Both kids were having melt downs at the same time as each other mid flight and we couldn’t for the life of us settle them down. Edi-Rae doesn’t generally do contact naps so she wouldn’t sleep on me at all and she was an absolute mess. Nick tried to take Paddy for a walk to the toilet and they went in to the cubicle, and Paddy freaked out which made the whole meltdown so much worse. I’m surprised Virgin didn’t give us a life time ban with the performance of our family. I had some Panadol which I gave Paddy because I thought maybe something was hurting him that he couldn’t communicate to us. The meltdowns lasted about half an hour and then both kids had no more energy left so we were able to distract them for the rest of the flight. We finally landed. I have never been more relieved to get off a flight ever in my whole life, I think we all were. Edi-Rae was still awake at this point (was around 8pm by now) so she was an absolute zombie.

To be continued...
