Day 77

We went through customs and I did a quick duty free alcohol stop while we waited for our bags. The hotel was just across the road so I was really happy to just head there, check in, have a quick shower and put Edi-Rae straight in the cot. Nick and Paddy were in a seperate room to us because I couldn’t find a room big enough to fit us all in. I got us 2 rooms right next to each other. I requested a cot for Edi-Rae as she won’t sleep in bed next to me, she just likes to sleep in a cot with no-one touching her. We walked into the first room with the kind man who was helping us with our luggage. I saw there was no cot there so I figured that must be Nick and Paddy’s room so we put their bags there and headed next door. I opened the door and there was also no cot in that room either which was confusing. There was a tiny newborn basinet outside the front of the room which I spotted as we walked in. There was no way that could be for us… like, it was shorter than Edi-Rae and if she stood up in it she would fall out in an instant. She is 16 months old, 13kg and wears size 2 clothes- there is no way she can fit in that thing. The man helping us was still with us so I kindly asked him “do you happen to know where the cot is?”. He pointed out the front door to the newborn basinet… “Thats your cot” he said. I used every ounce of energy I had left to give the nice man a fake smile and said “thanks so much” then waited for him to walk away before I started losing my mind to Nick trying to figure out what to do. By this time Edi-Rae was an absolute mess and I couldn’t even put her down. It was like 9:30pm and she had only slept that 23 minutes since 5am that morning. Time was ticking before shit was going to really hit the fan. Nick assured me there was nothing at all wrong here and proceeded to tell me to “calm down were in Fiji on a holiday”. He then pushed the newborn basinet in to the room and put it next to the bed and against the wardrobe so she was apparently “safe” as she couldn’t get out either side. It was also on wheels and had no breaks on it so if she was to stand up it literally would move around so I was still very scared even with Nicks ‘safety precautions’. There was also no sheet supplied for the newborn mattress so Nick kindly took mine off my bed and used it for the basinet then assured me everything was great, said goodnight and went on his way. I know he left thinking he saved the day but all he did was piss me off. Once they left Edi-Rae and I had the quickest shower and then it was time for bed. I put her in the basinet and she had to curl her legs up to fit, but she was so exhausted that she didn’t care and just passed out. I kept my hand on the basinet to make sure I could feel if it moved and I also slept half awake so I could hear any noise at all she was making incase she was going to try and stand up. She ended up sleeping through and waking at 7am Fiji time which is 5am our time. I woke as soon as I heard her wake and got her out of the basinet safe and sound. phew.
