I’m going to try and jam pack the week at the villa in to this entry. The villa itself was beyond amazing. It was so nice to be with the family and to not have to do housework and also eat amazing food. The first 3 nights we were there Paddy wasn’t well at all. He was so upset, crying and screaming all day and then all through the night as well which was waking up the whole household. He was coughing and didn’t want to do anything at all except watch TV but always with Nick by his side. A couple of days in Nick then woke up with conjunctivitis and itchy welts all over him. It was wild, they were so raised and itchy and he had no idea what could have caused it. Nick had some antihistamines to try and bring it down but it stayed around for 2-3 days. Nick went to golf on day 3 and I felt an ache in my chest that morning and was coughing. I felt like I had a chest infection or something but didn’t feel too bad. A few hours later while sitting with Paddy I felt him and he was burning. I took his temp and it was 39. I was concerned about his temp because its rare to get a temp 4 days in to the virus so I was worried he had a chest infection or something. I asked the staff at the villa if Paddy and I could see the doctor so they organised a lift for us. I was in a bit of shock when we arrived as it was not like the doctors at home at all. We are SO lucky to have facilities in Australia like we do, and that doctors visit was a great reminder of that. The doctor was so young, and so lovely. She took our temps and said we both had temps. She gave us both antibiotics as she thought Paddy might have a chest infection as well as me. Paddys antibiotics started to help him so fast. Mine however didn’t. I had a terrible sleep that night and woke up on Christmas Day feeling like I was going to die. I was hot and cold, I had body aches- the worst sore back ever, I was coughing and I had zero energy. I spend the whole of Christmas Day in bed. I was so weak I couldn’t move. I started to realise that this chest infection was in fact whatever virus Paddy had. Now I was freaking out that all of us were going to get it. I hadn’t been bed ridden like this since having influenza years ago so I thought it could be that or then I thought maybe covid but covid had never made me this sick so I wasn’t sure it could be that. Half way through Boxing Day I was up and about again. I thought- amazing we are in the clear but then Edi-Rae spiked a temp and I just knew she was coming down with the virus. The poor thing was so hot and lethargic. She slept so much and was waking up in the mornings screaming from the way she was feeling. Her cough was so awful and the snot was next level. My cough also started to get worse and I said to Nick that I feel like something is wrong with my lungs. I decided to book us both in to go and see the doctor. The doctor listened to my breathing and said that I have pneumonia in my left lung. She gave me a course of really strong antibiotics to take. They kicked in after a few days thank god because I was really struggling. We were meant to fly home on the 30th but it got to the 28th and something was telling me to change the flights and extend the trip and both Edi-Rae and I weren’t great and I didn’t want us to travel in this state and have a repeat of the flight over. I managed to change our flight and find accomodation close by to get us through for another 4 days. The 30th came and it was time to check out of the villa. Edi-Rae woke up the best she had woken up in a while so I felt happy that the virus was behind us. Maybe we can enjoy this next 4 nights as a family? SURELY nothing else will happen...
