Day 82

We had a couple of days of no vomits which was great. Edi-Rae even did a solid poo which made us so happy because it meant we were on the mend- yay!! She still was really exhausted and sleeping a lot which was a worry but at least she was able to keep things down now so hopefully eating and drinking will get her back to good. She was screaming to get in her high chair for some food. I made her a bit of toast and she had some banana and a tiny taste of yogurt. She was clearly hungry as she ate a lot of it and very fast. After breakfast Edi-Rae was a bit whingy which I didn’t think too much of because she has been off for so long now. Nick had both kids on the couch so I could get dressed and next minute I hear screaming “HOLY SHIT TARA”! I ran out and Edi-Rae has spewed all over the couch and it kept coming. This was the last straw for me. 8 days of gastro symptoms, a lethargic child who is sleeping most of the day- straight to hospital. We went to emergency and got straight in to see the triage nurse. She tested Edi-Rae’s blood sugar which was a little bit low at 3 and then tested her ketones which came back super high at 5.5. They took her straight in to see the doctor. They swabbed her to see if whatever virus we all had was still in her system. I was sure it wouldn’t be because it’s almost 2 weeks after she caught it. The doctor said we need to treat her for dehydration by using a wafer that stops vomiting and diarrhoea and then give her watered down apple juice 10ml every 5 minutes to see if she can keep it down. They said if she can’t she will need a feeding tube which I was really hoping wouldn’t happen. She was hating the juice at first but after a while she was loving it. The doctor came back and said she came back positive for influenza A but she is on the tail end of it. I was so confused because 2 people we were with on the holiday came home and tested positive for Covid so I would have thought that’s what we had but it was influenza A. I knew it was, I have had Covid many times and it was a walk in the park compared to the Flu. I am constantly sick with whatever paddy brings home from daycare but influenza A well and truly fucked me. The doctor said that he thinks we have some kind of gastro virus on top of that which is what’s making her so sick. Edi-Rae’s bloody sugar and ketones were tested every hour and they seemed to be correcting with this treatment so I was able to take her home and continue what we were doing there. I was really hoping this was the end of all the sickness but then I started feeling really sick. Body aches, chills and so nauseous. Of course it was a matter of time before I had to run to the toilet. And yep my shit was water. WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING PLEASE MAKE IT STOP.
